Port Charlotte, Florida is located in Charlotte County and is situated between Sarasota to the north and Ft. Myers to the south. Port Charlotte was developed in the 1950's and encompasses 22 square miles of land. One of Port Charlotte’s main attractions is its numerous saltwater canals which lead to the waters of Charlotte Harbor. Charlotte Harbor is one of America’s largest and most pristine estuaries. The harbor is fed by the Peace and Myakka rivers, which lower the salinity of the harbor and provide a very special ecosystem which nurtures many species of fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mangrove trees and myriad flora.
During the 1980’s the opportunity to purchase affordable waterfront property attracted many buyers to Port Charlotte and the town experienced a building boom. Many new homes, condominiums, businesses, banks, shopping centers and restaurants were built to accommodate all the new residents. The current population of Port Charlotte is 49,790. It’s no wonder that more and more baby-boomers seeking “the good life” as well as young families seeking a strong job market, a safe community, warm weather, and a reasonable cost of living are calling Port Charlotte home.
